Great 2 line phone!

I bought this for my work at home office. Its great! I get NO interference from wifi or other electronics in the home. I have it located in my sunroom/office and can go out into the yard, basement, 2nd story, no problems with reception. I can even go out into my detached garage! I bought a headset and walk around on my conference calls all day instead of having to sit at my desk. I am still ramping up on all the bells and whistles, but so far it is making my work day more productive and smoother.

Based failed and no replacement after 14 months

This portable phone and answering machine worked well for 14 months, and then suddenly the base unit became entirely unresponsive...lights stuck on red, and the phone could no longer talk to the base unit. We called Panasonic support, and they said that if the base unit is unresponsive, there is nothing to be done except to take it to a service center, which is over 100 miles away. We tried the usual things...unplugging and plugging it back in, trying different phone jacks, etc. with no effect. We bought this phone on Amazon and I'm placing this here in case others have experienced the same thing. Not sure if we were just unlucky or if there is a systematic problem with this phone.

Good little workhorse

I bought this phone from Amazon in October 2006, thought I made a review of it when also buying the Uniden (see my reviews on Uniden). The latter, I returned. This 2-line phone, I kept. The rechargeable battery lasted from 2006 until Friday last, just after Thanksgiving 2011. Am buying a replacement battery on Amazon this week.

Of all the Panasonic cordless phones I've purchased (and I prefer Panasonic phones to others), this one is the best. I've dropped it, packed it poorly and moved it, misconnected it, and it still keeps working. Its description presumes the old DSL setup, but it adapts to later technology. I can leave the apartment and walk almost half a block away, and still the signal transmits well, i.e., when my car died earlier this year, and I had to leave the apartment to tell AAA where to turn on a street, watching the tow truck drive past my location. The signal doesn't interfere with my computers.

Downsides: the volume isn't great. That's a problem with digital phones. Analog cordless phones are better, on volume. The other downside is that the manual isn't well-written, so you have to keep re-reading the material. But once you understand the functions, they are easy to remember. Last downside with this model only: the phone book entries can only be accessed via the menu button. So you go through an extra step. Other Panasonic phones allow you to access your phone book with one button.

But this phone is a keeper. I'm grateful to have it; the price now on Amazon is so good (I think I paid $200, back in 2006), I might buy another one, if the other Panasonic ever dies (my other Panasonic is KXTG2224, 2.4 Gigarange, much older and still going strong). Very good and very versatile cordless phone

I recently purchased this versatile cordless phone system and am very pleased with it. All of the features are convenient and work well and the voice quality is very good. The four handsets may at first seem excessive, but actually they provide convenient access to a phone no matter where one is in one's house. For example, I now have enough handsets to add them to the kitchen and main bathroom, which can be quite handy at times. Also convenient is the fact that only the main unit requires a phone outlet -- the three extension units requires only power outlets for their chargers. Another feature I like is that each handset can store up to 50 names and phone numbers. And, once programmed in one handset, entries can easily be tranferred to the other handsets if desired. Another convenient feature is that the system can be used as an intercom, with each handset capable of calling each of the other handsets. This is the most complete and most convenient phone system I've ever had and I like the quality and reliability of Panasonic products. If you want the features of this versatile phone system with fewer handsets please consider model KX-TG5633 which has two extension units or KX-TG5632 which has only one extension unit.

Nice Phone System

Have had the Panasonic KX-TG5634M 5.8 GHz FHSS GigaRange® Digital Cordless Answering System with Four Handsets working for about a month now. The intercom/walkie-talkie function between the handsets is cool. The phone works pretty clearly throughout our multi-level house, and is even very clear when answering a call or using the intercom from the neighbor's house. The phone number function works well; it's convenient that each phone has a separate phone bank and the numbers can be copied between phones. The batteries, so far, give my daughter more than four hours of talk-time before charging, though, it could be longer; we curtail her chance to push the limit. Being able to plug in a headset is also a plus. I recommend this phone system.

Great value for the money

After reading a ton of reviews and looking around town at many of the multi-handset digital 5.8GHz cordless phones, I finally ended up selecting the Panasonic KX-TG5643M. Originally I was searching for a Motorola product figuring the quality brand was a safe choice, but after reading the reviews, more negative than I anticipated, it made sense to consider some other options. In my opinion this system gives you the biggest bang for the buck. It has 4 handsets which is huge for our family, and the paging intercom feature has been such a convenience. I can't believe how much quieter the house is without all the yelling from room to room. All we do now is pick up the phone and dial the handset # of the room where we need to get someone's attention. We've only had the phone for two months and so far no issues with battery life or volume settings. The connections have all been very clear for us. The deal on Amazon was better than Target's sale price and it was delivered straight to my door. Great buy!

Great Phone

Have had this set for 2 1/2 years now. Daughter lost a handset (how in the world does this happen, did it walk out the door with her?). Went to the internet in search of replacement. Found a three set here. Perfect. We have a very large home and lots of wireless going on. Internet, TV's, cell phones, and cordless land line. Never had a hint of a problem with this outfit. Would highly recommend.

Terrific Phone

I bought this cordless handset to complement my original Panasonic 6.0 Answering System. I can't say enough about this product. Just put in the batteries, plug it in to an electrical outlet and you're good to go. I use this phone in the bedroom. Its very compact, stylish and fits nicely on the nightstand. Very easy to program. When a call is picked up by the answering system, the speaker on the handset turns on automatically and you can listen to the message as its being recorded (pretty neat stuff). I had an ATT System for years, but after using the Panasonic 6.0, I am completely sold.

Sounds great, big buttons, takes time to learn all the features

My husband and I purchased these phones for our home because we wanted a phone for the kitchen, our home office, and our bedroom. We already had bought this phone with a larger base that a answering machine built in, so we just needed three more regular phones. The fact that you get all three phones in one box and you're guaranteed that they will work together is nice. This is what you get: 3 identical phones that can be charged on any of the 3 bases. These phones have ALOT of features which is great! But the downside is that it takes awhile to learn how to use them all. These are some of the features that I use often and find the most helpful:you can listen to messages at any phone even if you are not at the answering machine base, you can use them like an intercom (which is helpful in our large, old farmhouse) so no more yelling up and down the stairs, push one button to transfer a call between the phones, and the phone book to save the numbers you need but can never remember. Also, the sound quality is amazing on these phones! I am a speaker phone junkie and use it all the time, when I tell people that they are on speaker phone they never believe me! And lastly, my husbands favorite thing about this phone: the big buttons. He hated our old phone because he would always dial wrong numbers due to the small, shiny, smooth buttons. But this phone has large rubbery buttons that his sausage fingers don't slip off of :) We've had these phones for 6 months and they work better then the day we bought them (due to that fact that we really know how to use them now!)

Outstanding phone (Panasonic 1743)

After checking out many other phones (Vtech, Uniden, Sony, Memorex) and returning them all for various reasons, I found this gem of a phone... Everything about this phone is first class. Handset feels great, solid construction, fun to use, adequate volume, clear speakerphones (base and handset).

Unlike many of the other phones I tried this one has adequate volume on the handset. It also has clear reception which is free from echo and interference. The speakersphones are simply the best for this price...they are quite clear and have plenty of volume. The phone feels solid and is one of the more comfortable phones to talk on. Battery power is also top notch (6 hrs continuous talk time and 14 day standby). Battery power bar is displayed on the handset which tells you when is the best time to replace the handset on the base unit for charging. This phone also has a very good answering machine, unlike many of the other digital answering systems which in many cases made the incoming messages and your own personal greeting impossible to discern.

This phone seems to have all the features. For instance, a seperate caller ID button on the base flashes when you have any new calls, even calls that did not leave a message on the answering machine. After you have checked the Caller ID list it places a check mark next to each number indicating that you, or someone else, has checked the incoming call after which the blinking CID light on the base unit turns off. Handset and base units can have their ringers shut down or put on low. Another thing I like about this phone is that the handset lies down on an angle in the base unit. Alot of the newer phones only allow for an upright placement of the handset in the base unit. This becomes a problem if you have small inquisitive children who seem attracted to the upright standing phones. Additionally, a small bump to the table causes the handet to tumble off the base unit. The Panasonic 1743 keep the phone where it belongs, on a slight incline lying securely down in the base unit.

The only minor knock I have on this phone is that the Caller ID lists incoming calls from the same area code as having a 1-### before the number requiring editing of the number before calling it back directly from the listing. However, Panasonic makes editing this a simple matter by two quick presses of the handset curser.

One important thing about this 900 MHz phone is that it is digital. Many people don't realize that most of the 900 Mhz phones on the market today are analog phones. The primary benefit of digital is that it reduces or eliminates interference while also keeping your conversations difficult or impossible to monitor by your nosy neighbors who just might have a scanner at their disposal. (Note: You might be surprised how many of these scanners are out there because those who own them usually don't divulge this information in fear that they may be branded an eavesdropper). Digital processing of your conversation makes tracking your call very difficult. Plus, this phone automatically scans the entire 900 MHz bandwith constantly changing frequencies, which makes listening in on scanners virtually impossible. You never know who is listening to your conversations. I have heard that thieves or other criminals often use scanners to figure out when people may be leaving their houses so that they can break in while you're out, or worse yet determine when a vulnerable loved one is at home alone. For this reason alone you should never consider an analog phone.

If you are considering a more expensive 2.4 Ghz unit, think again. This phone has more than adequate range for any size house and it performs as well or better than most 2.4 GHz phones out there today, particualrly the analog ones. Although it doesn't have SST (spread spectrum technolgy) found on some 900 Mhz and many 2.4 Ghz units it is digital and thus quite secure. Unless you plan on talking 1/4 mile or more from your base unit there is no real need for SST anyway.

All in all this phone has it all. Performance, quality, features, ergonomics, and affordability. Plus the customer service (1-800-211-PANA) is outstanding as well. Sounds like a winner to me. Do yourself a favor and try out this phone.

So close to perfect 4.5 Stars

I have looked and looked for the perfect cordless phone and this is the best I have found. One of my criteria is a speakerphone in the handset. So useful for being on hold and listening to voicemail. This phone has: No hiss, speakerphone is one of the best (I've tried them all, Vtech, AT&T, etc.), callerid, digital answering machine that sounds very clear. Size is nice, much better then the smaller Vtech, Panasonics, etc. Sound is much better and speakerphone is much much better. Only drawback is they didn't put caller id on base, only handset. Would have gotten 5 stars if on base also.

A decent phone/answering machine

On the whole, I'm happy with this phone, especially given the very mixed reviews of all cordless phone/answering machine combinations. (They all seem to be hit-and-miss, which argues for buying a standalone answering machine.) But I've had good luck with this one. I've had the phone for several months without significant problems. Once in a great while the handset doesn't connect to the base when you press "talk" to receive an incoming call, in which case the answering machine picks up. Once in a great while there are clicks while you're talking, obliterating small portions of your conversation. But it has never disconnected my call or had its battery die. Voice quality on the digital answering machine is not crystal clear, but it's acceptably audible. And contrary to another review here, this phone can be hung on a wall plate. Mine is. It sticks out a bit, but doesn't fall.

Things I like about this unit:
1) When you pick up the handset from the base, you don't have to press a button to answer the call.
2) You can precisely set the volume and the number of rings before the answering machine picks up.
3) If the answering machine picks up before you do, you can interrupt it simply by pressing "talk" or picking up the handset from the base.
4) It tells you exactly how many messages have been left, and blinks if you haven't listened to them yet. And there's a time-date stamp.
5) You can dial a number "off-line," read the number on the display to make sure it's right, and THEN press talk to speed-dial it, or do it the traditional way (get your dial tone first, then dial).
6) The speakerphone on the handset works very well. My 2-year-old twins can talk on it simultaneously.
7) There's a plastic belt clip for the handset. Handy if you have infants.

Very nice, but missing a couple of key features

A very nice piece of telephone gear, integrating the phone, answering machine, and caller ID functions. I only have two complaints: 1. For some reason, there is no MUTE button! A mute button is the greatest, particularly for tele-conference calls. 2. There are no one-button speed-dial buttons. It can remember 100 names and numbers, which is great, but to access the list you must: a. turn the jog dial, b. press a letter key, perhaps a couple of times, to get to the desired first letter, c. turn the jog dial some more to get to your desired entry. That's a lot of activity to call someone you call all the time!

Still looking for something less complicated!

Overall, a good machine; speakerphone and caller ID memory are wonderful. But lots of steps to follow to access basic functions, even remotely. A couple of times, I know for certain that this machine has failed to record messages from callers...NOT good! Also, the recording quality leaves a bit to be desired, too; this is particularly true of the outgoing message quality; for some reason the callers' messages come through more clearly. (Hint: record your outgoing message remotely, from a quiet location--seriously!)

Still looking for a decent 2 line phone & answerer!

I bought this a year ago to replace an almost-new AT&T model when I discovered that the AT&T model had a nasty habit of hanging up on people in mid-message, or sometimes failing to answer at all. In other words, the AT&T machine was garbage.

This Panasonic is sooooo much nicer! And for several months, it performed perfectly. But lately, it's developed some problems:

- even though I recorded my outgoing messages clearly and they sound fine when I review them, callers complain that they can barely hear them.

- if someone calls and doesn't speak sufficiently loudly when they leave their message, this machine will hang up on them in mid-message.

I dunno.. it's such a nice phone, with great buttons & all the features, but I'm back to square one. Somebody please tell me: WHO MAKES AN ANSWERING MACHINE THAT ACTUALLY TAKES MESSAGES, the WHOLE message, EVERY TIME? Certainly not AT&T. And I guess not Panasonic. I'm running out of models to try.

Panasonic Cordless is the Longevity Leader

I've been researching the different phones quite heavily. Some of the more profound findings were from on the floor sales staff at major office supply stores. The first store, he mentioned that the Panasonic was the best, and that Uniden, and V tech were junk. The second store I went to, he was a lot more specific, and really knew his stuff. He said that Unidens were the best voice and transmission quality, but didn't hold up. He also said the V techs were junk. His comment about the Panasonics was, I am not going to lie to you, they last forever, and have excellent overall quality, but you are going to pay more for that. He was emphatic about explaining that, his comment was intended for the full size Panasonic 5.8s, not the new little tiny 5.8 Panasonics, that are having problems, more like the V-techs.
A friend of mine has the Vtech 5.8, and has already had to return two handsets due to malfunctions. He also mentioned that when he presses a number to dial, it doesn't always register, and he has to press it again. I speak with him on the phone though, and even though he is outside his house, the quality is great.
My personal comments on the Panasonic 5.8 6502B is that I love the whole system. The quality is great. I get absolutely no static, or noise, even when my head is practically inside the microwave. (Which is the first thing I wanted to check after using my 2.4 and 900 megahertz that way and got so much noise I had to leave the room) Going outside of the stone house, I went all the way past my neighbor's front yard, before I got noise, and that is about 100 feet. I can go anywhere in the house, which is a 60 foot house, meaning that 40 feet is the max distance from the base unit, and everything is crystal clear, no matter what floor I am on. I have the base unit sitting on top of a major subwoofer.
I am a Panasonic fan, because I have a 900Mghz dual line, and a 2.4Ghz single line cordless, both of them Panasonics, and I have owned them for 10 years or more, and they both work perfectly. I had to buy replacement batteries for the older 900, which is the one that is over 10 years old. I bought replacements-aftermarket from eBay and they work great. My 2.4 is still running off of the original batteries. Not a glitch with either of those phones. That is reliability.
Now I want to talk about headsets. The dream from way back was to be able to walk around cordless, and better yet, hands free. I can go out in the garage, out in the yard, (go to the bathroom) get something to drink, or whatever I want, without being tied to the cord, and just as important, not having to bend my neck to hold the phone up, or use up a hand. Total freedom is great. The problem is that my headsets for the 900 or 2.4 don't work properly with the 5.8Ghz. I tried the Plantronics 25 or 29-dollar model, and it was so quiet, when I left a message on the answering machine, it would hang up. I tried my old headset, and it did the same thing. So their is something about 5.8 systems that require more volume. The reviews on the Panasonic headsets were many, but not many on the 5.8 volume problem. Those that were happy didn't report what they were using them on.
Once again, my Staples expert, the rare sales person who really knows what they are talking about, pointed me away from Plantronics, and aimed me directly at the AT&T Executive headset model number EHS30 for only $19.95. He said they were loud, and when hearing, you have to turn down the volume. The Plantronics he stated were for business use, when you don't want the caller hearing ten other conversations going on in the background. On the AT&T headset pack, they say," Designed for the HOME office professional" Anyhow, I took it home, plugged it in, and it WORKS GREAT FOR THE 5.8. I sent a message to another answering machine in the house and the volume was greater than when using the regular phone, and without any distortion. It had great sound quality, and plenty of it. The AT&T has enough boom length, to get in front of your mouth. On the Plantronics, in frustration, I took the headset off, and spoke directly into the mic, but although I got more volume, there was distortion.
This paragraph is an edit to my original review. I have since received the Panasonic KX-TCA60 headset that everyone raves about, but others commented that they do not work with the 5.8s. Well they do. It does say on the cardboard plackett that the headset comes on, that they were meant for 900Mghz, and 2.4s but leaves out the 5.8s. BUT the owners manual for the 6502 says that headset works fine, and it does. The boom mic is crystal clear, just like the AT&T, and the volume on the ear piece is just the right volume. The AT&T goes above the normal volume, but gives you an adjustable volume knob to tweak it just right. The Panasonic TCA60 does not have a volume knob but is set at just the right volume already. The speaker on the AT&T is the same outside diameter cushion, but the actual speaker opening is twice the size of the Panasonic. That may help in part as to why the volume on the AT&T is greater. If you were in a really loud room, the AT&T has a higher volume adjustability. Both were perfect quality, sound and plenty of it. You can't go wrong with either one. The AT&T is twice the price of the Panasonic but is built a little more substantially. Hey get both, you have a lot of stations with the 6502.
One last comment is on looks. The picture of the individual handsets, the Panasonic 650 is more like the real look of the phone. If you look at the 6502B picture, it looks like pure black, which it is not. I prefer the pearl black metallic/off charcoal gray look, which it shows you in the 650 handset only picture here at Amazon, which is what it all is and has a black back. Also the LCD color they show in that picture is not accurate; it is more like a goldish yellow instead.
Overall, I find the 6502B or 6500 with a single handset, which are full size Panasonics, to be the best looking, most functional, and most reliable units out there. I have absolutely no complaints at all. Pertaining to the comments about the calls missed showing up on all of the handsets; when you have multiple people using the same system, everyone has a chance to review all of the incoming calls, and with the caller ID, they show up with the sending phone number and time of the call. If someone else like a brother or sister, erased your message at the base, or from their handset, you know what calls came in, and who to holler at :-)
Get the Panasonic 6502B or 6500, and get the AT&T headset EH530, which also works in your cell phone with the same 2.5mm plug. Buy it, you won't be sorry. I seriously feel a pang of love when I walk past the handset stations, especially, when I consider all of the old problems this new system solves.
Oh, one more thing, I have the primary line set up on my Lingo line, that I learned about here at Amazon. It's the new VOIP and costs me only $19.95 a month for unlimited long distance all over the US, Canada, and 17 countries in Western Europe. The included premium call services including Caller ID all work beautifully with the Panasonic system. I guess you could say, "I'm phone happy" Hope this helps.

Outstanding phone system, the complete package

When my existing cordless phone bit the dust, I didn't rush to purchase a replacement and took my time researching all available options. When it came right down to it, Panasonic's KX-TG6502B fit the bill. If there's a feature this 5.8 GHz system doesn't have, please tell me. I guess that's why Consumer Reports gave it such a high rating.

The DSS signal is strong and secure, the range exceptional and I have never experienced any interference -- a concern for me due to my wireless home computer network. Two lines were a must with teenagers in the house and there aren't too many product choices available today if that's a requirement for you, too. All the usual two-line functions are included like flash and hold ... as well as the standard phone basics like call waiting, caller ID, etc.

I have absolutely no regrets. I don't know why other reviewers experienced problems, but not me. Not once. Never.

One of the best features is that everything is accessible through each individual handset, especially the digital answering system. No longer do I need to walk across the house to play back my messages. And I don't have to worry about missing any -- even with the ringer turned off -- because of the small blinking light at the top of the antennae. Oh, and the blinking light also alerts me to an incoming call. Kind of like a "silent" mode.

The system can be expanded up to four lightweight handsets in all and it's an easy, two-button process to add additional units to your existing system. You don't even need a phone jack to place a handset anywhere in the house -- just a power outlet for the small, inobstrusive base.

A good measure of any purchase is the pleasant surprises you discover once you have it in hand and this phone has a few worth noting: A backlit handset LCD that makes it easy to operate in the dark, the speakerphones in each handset, the fact you can take the phones with you away from the home for use as an emergency walkie-talkie system, and the ease of use in transferring up to one 50-call directory from one handset to another. And those are only the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

If I had a complaint, it would be the limited ringer options -- four in all -- none of which is particularly appealing. I can live with that.

I have to admit that when I first received this system, it didn't exactly knock my socks off in terms of a "wow" factor. But the longer I've owned it -- close to a year now (updated review Nov. 2005) and counting -- the more I appreciate it for it's clean, elegant design and problem-free operation. I have also added two more handsets to it since my original purchase.

Works well. Voice quality is excellent. Couple of quirks.

After struggling for years with Siemens Gigaset 2420 system....Got the Panasonic. I am pleased and the most important and demanding user in the home (spouse) is happy.

Voice quality: very very good, but a bit too low with headset. Speakerphone feature works well. Caller-ID, voicemail, remote operation all work very well. Intercom works great. Have had no problems with any interfernce, static, or range problems. I am using the system with Vonage VoIP service.

First of all, here are some tips: For the base unit, Panasonic sells a backup power supply for around $20 that plugs right into the 9V power jack on the base unit. Rated for 5 hours standby on six rechargeable AA batteries. (model KX-TCA200).

Here is another tip:

Undocumented feature.. There is an annoyance in that each handset 'remembers' missed calls for some odd reason. So you pick up the extension and it says '12 missed calls'. To clear this quickly, hit the down-button, then the right-menu button turns into 'ERASE'...hit it and you're clear. So just a quick two buttons and it's clear.

One minor annoyance for those with poor vision...when playing back remote voicemails, the erase command (*4 Erase message) can be hard to read. (until you memorize it)

Couple of interface and other product wishes:
1) Why not put date and time up on blank display?
2) Would be nice to be able to label intercom extensions like on my old siemens 2420. (Display would show "#1 Office" on office extension and also on base station.
3) Get rid of stupid 'xxx missed calls' feature.
4) Voice quality of ans machine outgoing message is OK, but not great, even in 'high quality mode'.
5) While display is lit, and so are numbers, the talk and off buttons are not. You learn them by feel after awhile, but it would be nice....
6) I wish up or down arrow took you to call directory, not caller id list. (to hit call directory you hit right menu twice, then scroll up/down with arrow button)
7) If you're using it with only one phone line, it would be nice to disable line 2 selection (like on Siemens). Also it would be nice to specify preferred L1/L2 inbound/outbound per extension.

Couple of things that are cool:

1) phone list replication between phones works great and is easy
2) lightup antenna for call or message is cool and handy (esp when ringer is off in bedroom)
3) Phone book entry as well as caller-id auto-edit features are cool and save time.
4) Musical ringtones sound very nice.
5) Ans machine is easy to use and fairly logical.
6) Phone picks up cleanly when ans machine gets it every time.
7) Backlight works well.
8) This is a silly thing, but the phone will stand up by itself on a table so speakerphone can work the best.
9) Belt clip seems sturdy so far,
10) Buttons have very positive action and so far never 'bounce' or 'miss'.

Great phone

I have just had this phone for a few days and I really like it. I was having problems finding a phone that was clear. Due to my Verizon dsl, clarity on the other phones I tried was not very good, but this one is great. I like that stored numbers are easily retrieved, and I don't have to go through every number until I find the one I want. The only thing that it does not have is the ability to use a head set with it. I had bought a head set at the same time, but there is no port for it on the handset. That is the only feature I miss. All in all, a great phone

Great Phone Package

This is a great phone package. 1. It uses standard NiMH off the shelf AAA rechargeable batteries when you need to replace them in a few years. 2. Each handset has a loud speaker phone built in. 3. Its small and lightweight like a cellphone. 4. Talk time is four (4) solid hours and I have verified that on many occasions. 5. The package deal on here for $85 is unreal for 4 phones (I paid a lot more for mine) 6. Since its 5.8 GHZ it won't intefere with 2.4 GHZ stuff (wireless cams, routers, etc). 7. I highly recommend this for the price. 8. Oh and the sound is clear and perfect with no inteference at all anywhere I talk on it.

Phones are great

I bought the phones because the house we live in is very sparse for telephone jacks, and this system allowed us to have phones in any room that had an electrical outlet. So far, the phones work exactly as advertised. This is the fourth Panasonic phone system (or unit) that I have owned, and each time, they seem to get a little better, at least battery-wise. These batteries last a very long time with talk and standby. I have yet to fully explore the capabilities, but they have everything that I need, and certain features, like the phonebook sharing, are a godsend when setting up the system. I entered my phone book into one phone, and then I "shared" it with the other phones intantaneously - a real time saver. Since I had another phone system with an answering machine (with features I liked slightly better), I was easily able to turn off the answering machine on the new system - very nice to be able to do.

Bottom line - the price is very reasonable, and the quality is good. Strongly recommend!

Setting this up was simple and took just a few minutes from opening the box. The sound quality is about as high as from the mega-$$ Polycom systems in corporate conference rooms. People on the other end do not suspect that you are on a speakerphone.

Good design

I thought this unit with its 4 sided design makes more sense than a 3 sided units. Calls are clear and mics are sensitive so be careful what you whisper, use the mute button instead. Recording feature is a nice touch. Phone and power cords are designed for a conference phone in mind, with its "y" design, one single cord is connected to the unit. This unit is easy to move around and looks clean and profession.

Great phone

I have to participate on a lot of early morning and late night teleconferences so I bought this phone on sale for use at home because my portable phones never seemed to have enough battery life to make it through a long teleconference. Even though it is only me on the phone, this phone allows me to get up and walk around my house and still be listening to the call -- plus it has a large mute button for when the dogs start to bark :) The sounds quality is fabulous.

Very easy to use and inexpensive dual-mode VoIP phone.

Ok, so we're not ready to totally cut the cord yet and go fully VoIP. We still want the local POTS phone service in case of (knock on wood, hopefully not) an emergency where we need 911. VoIP does not give you real 911 in your city, you get connected to some call center in who knows where. No thanks.

We were paying AT&T $15/month for unlimited long distance, which was a good deal a few years ago, but now with the cell phones we don't use long distance at home much. Only a few hours, it shouldn't be more than $5/month.

The Globarange is one of the only devices available in the US that lets you use your regular home phone, has an answering machine, and lets you make long distance calls over the Internet with VoIP.

I did not sign up for a JoIP plan other than the pay as you go. It is very reasonable, it's like 1.5 cents/minute in the US for long distance (and free to call other JoIP users; I am trying to get my family to sign up). I have a family member moving overseas this summer and it is only a few cents a minute more for overseas calls to him. If he gets a JoIP phone there, it will be free :)

The phone is easy to set up. You plug it into your router and into your PSTN (regular phone jack). I have mine hooked up to an Apple Airport Extreme base station I am using in "WDS" mode because I don't have a phone and internet jack in the same room. Works fine, no problems.

Voice call quality is excellent over both the VoIP and PSTN modes. The VoIP mode (internet call) connects very quickly. I have a high speed internet connection from Comcast (15mbs down, 1.5-2 mbs up) and have not noticed any quality problems.

The phone itself is easy to use (we came from another Panasonic cordless, the interface is similar). The answering machine works. It is easy to choose either IP or PSTN based calling (orange button or green button).

I would highly recommend this phone system for people who want to benefit from the MUCH cheaper long distance and overseas rates possible with VoIP but do not want to give up their regular phone service for various reasons (911, etc).

I tried the Skype dual mode phones but they are awful. The sound quality is awful, the phones are very slow to respond, and they do not have an answering machine. Skype is a great deal at only $3 for unlimited long distance (ie what they used to call SkypeOut) but the standalone phones are NOT ready for prime time.

I have heard there are issues with Panasonic/JoIP customer service but I have never called them.

The only downside of this device is you are locked into the Panasonic/JoIP branded VOIP service. You cannot use it with any other SIP provider that may have better rates to where you are trying to call. Actually, however, if you are highly technically inclined, do a google search for "globarange and asterisk" and you can manage this issue. Not worth it to me, personally.

Right now in the US there are no alternatives to this device. Overseas, Phillips sells a very well regarded phone line called Gigaset IP that has a dual mode IP + PSTN phone including answering machine that you can use with any VoIP provider you want. But it's very expensive and not available in the US right now.

The Panasonic can be had for $60-70 and the extension handsets are only $30.

I am very happy with this purchase and cannot recommend it highly enough! Get one!

Poor client service (think Sunrocket quality). Phone is good product.

Did not work that well for me: the setup gave issues with the online website. Client service only responded once with promise to have tech expert call back. Never did. Still waiting, after 2 weeks, for answers to online queries and you get parked in 'hold' limbo when you call.

The monthly plans are not good at all and YOU CANNOT REMOVE THEM once you sign up. the only way is client service, but they do not answer the phone nor the mails.

Lastly: the connections have been hit and miss. Tried QoS on router but did not really help. Do not think it is my DSL since I use that with no problems for video conferencing and XBOX Live.
Anyways, nice looking phone, but they are not ready to support it.
This can only get worse now that they are throwing the phones online for bargain prices: spike in bandwidth, overwhelmed support. Bad bad.

Good phone but not good customer service of JOIP

I found this phone very good with great features. I didn't have any problem in setting up the phone and using the phone. I bought two, one for here in USA and another for India. I am able to use to it and it cut down my calling costs. The only problem is JOIP customer service. They don't respond to your emails ontime. We have to wait for many days for that.
You can call the customer service but it puts on waiting for long time most of the time but these days the customer service is improved alot.

I am updating this after 4 months of purchase in August, 2008. I don't want to mention all the features of the phone. I mainly bought this phone for IP (Internet phone).It is working excellent. I haven't spent even a single penny on phone calls using the IP phone. As I said, I have set up two phones, one in india and one in usa. I like this IP feature alot.
Also to mention, the speaker phone on this phone is excellent. Good sound quality apart from all other features. I got another one to set up in India again.

It is a good phone both for landline and for JOIP. I didn't have any problem so far using the IP phone. I highly recommend this phone to everyone who wants to use especially for IP. Even if you don't want to or else don't need IP feature you can still buy this phone as it has all features for regular cordless phone with excellent voice quality with speaker phone too.

Right now (March 2009), the IP feature is not working in India. So we cannot call anyone who has the phone in India. I called customer service and they said they are working on it as Indian government has locked their services. Wait for some more time till I update about this situation if anyone wants to use it in India.

The phone is in excellent working condition even after two years. I was able to use JOIP services in USA but not in India anymore as i said in march 2009. I wish the JOIP team work out this problem. I noticed that the globarange phone is not made anymore (because it doesn't show up on panasonic website)

beware of problems with previous Panasonic cordless multi-ln

I recently purchased a Panasonic cordless multi-line phone, model #KX-TG4000B. My model must be a slightly older model, compared with this new Panasonic model #KX-T7885. The other difference is mine (G4000B) is 2.4GHz, versus this one (7885) is a 900MHz. The reason that I'm writing this review is because I wanted to WARN people about a serious flaw with the older model (G4000B), so that people can make sure that this new model (7885) does NOT have the same flaw. The KX-TG4000B does not allow more than one handset to be connected to the same line at the same time. In other words, if someone calls you on Line #1, and you answer with the base unit, then other people in your house cannot join the conversation on Line #1. If you try to join Line #1 from another handset, then you get a "BUSY message and busy signal. It's crazy. The phone is essentially useless, because of this one major flaw. Double-check the 7885 model to make sure it doesn't have this same flaw.

Solid Performer

Excellent sound quality throughout the house, easy to set up, logical features -- all in all a solid performer. The digital answering machine can be set to an "enhanced" mode for a better quality recording if one is willing to accept a shorter total record time (approx. 8 minutes total). Using that option, we have found messages to be very clear and more easily understood than on our last two digital answering machines. We don't use caller ID, so we can't evaluate the "talking caller ID." On balance, we're very pleased with this Panasonic phone.

Nice features, Poor sound quality

I'm on a quest to find a cordless phone with decent features and excellent sound quality. I was hoping my search would end with the Panasonic KX-TG2356S, but unfortunately I'll have to keep looking. The phone is attractive and has a lot of nice features, but I'll be returning it due to the following shortcomings:
1) I hear my voice echoing when I speak.
2) The handset volume is too low. Even on the loudest setting, it is difficult to hear the other person.
3) Low level of static at all times. I run a test where I get a dial tone, then press the 1 key and listen for static.
4) All audio from the phone has a very high pitched, trebly, shrill sound quality. This includes the answering machine, dial tone, and the voice of people you speak to.

There are a few other things I don't like about the phone. There are pretty minor, but worth mentioning:
5) Handset doesn't always recognize it has been placed on the base. Sometimes have to jiggle the handset to get it to charge.
6) The answering machine doesn't light up the # of messages it has, which makes it difficult to read. The number is usually a red LED on other answering machines. (If there are new messages, the Play button flashes, which is nice).
7) Handset is not very comfortable after holding it against your ear for 15 or so minutes. This is noticeable because you have to push it so tight against your ear to hear anything since the volume is so low.

I can forgive most shortcomings of the phone, but not poor sound quality. The phone is pretty expensive; I expected more.

Beep, beep, bye-bye

Overall this is a good product but details can be niggling. The phone beeps to confirm the handset has begun charging which is fine in concept but it seems to resettle itself periodically and repeat this beeping no matter whether it is in the desk or wall position, with the handset in either way, and with very clean contacts. So despite some cool features like a speakerphone in the handset I am returning this item because I already have too many things that randomly beep at me.

The talking caller ID worked ok but for wireless callers it wasn't helpful, even if you had the number and name in your address book. Also while the number is displayed instantly, the talking caller ID takes until about the second ring to start by which time you've already gotten up :)

Solid phone, lousy radio/clock/alarm

Panasonic built a solid phone in this product series. The base station, answering machine and the phones themselves are what I would consider "the standard" in which to compare all other cordless phone systems. Sound, battery life, ease of operating the answering machine are all great.

I was very disappointed with this clock radio phone unit, though.

No battery backup. Power goes out and you have to use difficult means to reset the clock time and alarm time.

Loud and annoying alarm. At the price of this unit, you would think Panasonic would take a cue from Sony and others and provide some more pleasing sounds as alternatives to either go to sleep to or wake up by.

Radio controls are just bad. Inconveniently located, hard to be precise when tuning.

Looks nice on my nightstand. Very convenient because it does not require a phone cord attached to the wall. Very durable for a phone.

The best combo of phone & radio, taking up the least amount of space. Phone works great, as does the radio. Highly recommended. Just keep in mind that this unit will work only with the KX-TG 5200 model series of phones.

No problems at all!!!

This is the best phone I have ever owned.
The reception is is great. The speakerphone feature works great too, it is nice and clear from both sides when speaking, no breaking up. It has nice melodies to choose from. There is one I love and use that doesn't scare me from my sleep like the regular ringing from my old phone did. It was easy to register my other handset also.

Great Phone.

I actually have the 5202M which is the same phone, but with an additional hand set. This phone works great! The CallerIQ is the only odd feature because to use if effectively you have to call into a service which appears to cost about $10 per month.

The reception is very good but I can't go more than about 50 yards from the house before it starts loosing reception. Within the house it is perfect.

The speaker phone is great on the handset as well. I didn't think I would use the feature, but for long hold times or sharing a converstation or just working hands free, it works great.

I am giving it four stars because when you add a handset they don't seem to "work together" in the sense that if you pick up the call on one hand set, the other hand set logs it as a missed call.

Typical product marketing - leave you wanting for the sequel

I purchased this phone for my home office. I liked the ability to have access to all the lines (including my fax line) on one system. This system has excellent functionality based upon the attendant and call routing. It also has better range in our 4,500 sf house than the Siemens 2420 system, which only is only a two line phone (more later). This system has large programmable memory locations, intuitive interfaces on the extensions as well as the base station.

HOWEVER, the primary purpose for acquiring this phone was to use the base station as my primary office phone with the capability to roam throughout our three story house. As a base station, this system is severely lacking. Although the speaker phone is great, it has NO MUTE! If you participate in conference calls, you need a headset with a mute switch to have an offline discussion or even sneeze. Also, using two friends as guinea pigs, the sound quality was pitiful on two different units of this same model thinking it was a fluke. According to my unscientific testing, the sound quality of the cordless handsets was poor as well. Finally, the handsets are huge. While the antenna makes the range a little better, it is a large unit that makes me feel like I have a Motorola Brick phone next to my head. Ergonomics are not Panasonic's strong suit, but the lit keypad is nice for using in the dark (although I prefer doing other things than dialing someone while in the dark).

I tried these units in direct comparison to the Siemens 2420. I've never been a VTech fan and didn't even consider them. The Brother was too cumbersome so I excluded it too. So, based upon my personal, and time consuming, experiences, I chose the Siemens because it had better sound and, of all things, a mute button for the base. The range of the Siemens compared to the Panasonic may not be great and I had to replace the NiMH with Li batteries, but taken as a whole I liked the Siemens better.

If Panasonic had put a mute button on the base of this system, I would have kept it in spite of the sound differences. Funny how one litte feature made my decision.

Battery life weak and important feature missing...

Battery life rated at 8 hours talk time on Panasonic web site but believe me, it's closer to 2 hours. We've had to switch handsets in mid conversation more times than we should. Also, when talking on the phone, incoming calls are not put into voice mail automatically, they are ignored. Such an obvious feature overlooked (if it is possible, we can't find it explained anywhere in the manual). Also, when listening to messages, you can not save the message on the base unit, you have to transfer it to a handset/mailbox or lose it. Best feature is that you only need one phone jack for 8 handsets, you can put the handsets anywhere you want (near an electrical outlet). Handsets not very comfortable for long conversations. Overall, we wished we'd waited for shortcomings to be worked out. Lots of reasons to buy, these are some reasons to wait or look elsewhere.

critical flaws - no mute, only 1 handset / line, poor sound.

I purchased the Panasonic KX-TG4000B as a replacement for my old Siemens Gigaset 2420. I'm really disappointed with the Panasonic KX-TG4000B, and I'm considering trashing it and returning to my old Siemens Gigaset 2420.

The Panasonic KX-TG4000B has some critical flaws:
(1.) the sound quality is not great - just as BAD as the Siemens;
(2.) there is NO mute - no mute on the speakerphone - and no mute on the cordless handsets;
(3.) only one handset per line (I'll explain details later); and
(4.) cordless handsets cannot be assigned "names" (like "kitchen" or "master bathroom") -- the handsets only have pre-assigned numbers.

The problem with the "one handset per line" is basically that you CANNOT join a conversation ... you get "line busy". For example, if the base unit has a call going on line #1, and you try to join that call from one of the cordless handsets, then you get a "line busy" error message and a busy signal. So, if someone else in the house in on the phone with Gramma, and asks you to "pick-up the phone", ... basically, ... YOU CAN'T. You try to join Line #1, and you get a busy signal. The only way to get another cordless handset to join the call is for the current caller to "conference" the an additional handset onto the call. And, that's difficult because you cannot assign a "name" to the handsets (like "kitchen" or "master bathroom") -- the handsets only have NUMBERS!

If preventing you from joining a call in progress is some kind of "security" feature (e.g., might be appropriate for an office setting), then they ought to have some kind of configuration option that will let you turn it OFF (especially in a home setting).

A minor annoying aesthetic is the base station number keypad that you use to dial the phone -- the number buttons are BIG and GOOFY looking, not professional, not backlit. The cordless handsets have nice transparent number buttons with a backlight. Panasonic should have used the same number keypad on the base unit.

The inability to join a conversation (because you get a busy signal when trying to join a line with a call in progress), combined with the lack of a MUTE capability (neither on the base unit nor the cordless handsets), the inability to assign names to handsets, and the poor sound quality make this a disappointing phone with a very large price tag.

So, my question for other shoppers is: If the Siemens Gigaset and Panasonic KX-TG4000B both have problems / drawbacks / feature flaws, ... then, ... what's the answer --> What is the best cordless, multi-line, multi-handset telephone system? Which frequency gives better voice sound quality: 900MHz or 2.4GHz? Or, are they the same? Does FHSS (Frequency-Hopping Digital Spread Spectrum) provide better voice sound quality? What's the best?

Phone without a box

The handset came without a box and instructions. I had to call the manufacturer to get instructions on how to deregister the old handset so I could use the new one. This was not the fault of the handset but the company that sent it to me.

Good 4.5 star phone

My previous phone was also a Panasonic, a 2.4GHz model whose speakerphone feature had gotten to where it was pretty much unusable. Note that I use the phone company's voice mail instead of this phone's message system, so I can't comment on any aspect of that feature.

What I like:

- This phone doesn't interfere with my Wi-Fi signal.

- The handset speakerphone feature works really well. Volume is plenty loud and everyone I've asked has said it's very clear, some even being surprised to learn I'm using a speakerphone.

- General interface design is pretty good, which makes it easier to use all those fancy features than products that make you wonder if the person who designed them ever actually used them. ;-)

- Something I've wanted for a long time in a phone: five-number redial history (ten would be better ;-).

- Smaller and lighter than other phones I've used, and no external antenna. Not too small, just more convenient to carry in my pocket when I'm outside.

- Back of handset is flat opposite the keys, so you can use the keypad when it's lying flat, but the speaker is higher up where a curve in the handset puts it off the surface. Nice thinking on their part.

- Handsets have an LED that blinks for an incoming call, glows yellow when charging, and green when handset is fully charged.

- My old Panasonic's power adapter used about 4 watts according to my P3 International Kill-a-Watt Electricity Usage Monitor and was hot to the touch (about 130 degrees), so I was concerned this system would use 16 watts or so to run all of the power adapters. Turns out that all of them combined only use about one watt total, which saves me about $0.25/month on my electric bill over my old single-handset phone. Nice. (Every little bit helps. ;-)

- The Talking Caller ID is nice. It's not perfect, but it's nice if it's taking me a while to get to the phone. Lets me know if I should hurry or not. Of course, with four handsets I never have very far to go anymore. ;-)

- Did I mention there are four handsets? Sooo much more convenient that one.

What I wish were different (why I'd dock it half a star):

- I wish there were lighted keys on the handset keypads. Dialing in low light conditions tends to be a bit challenging.

- In what seems to be a downside of those really energy efficient chargers, these are not rapid-charge systems. If you run a battery down (easier to do on long calls using the speakerphone mode) it will take several hours to recharge fully. This is just a minor quibble, though, as you can always switch to a different handset during a call and you get four of the darned things, and it's a reasonable tradeoff to get the power consumption down to such low levels. I use the speakerphone mode almost exclusively, and it hasn't ever caused a problem, I just noticed that it takes a long time to do a full recharge.

- There's no "master" phonebook. You can add one handset's phonebook to another handset, but you have to do that three times to get it on all handsets and if you add a number to one it doesn't appear on the others. However, I like having separate phonebooks, as I keep business phone numbers on only one handset to speed access to personal numbers on the other handsets.

These are all minor quibbles, though, and overall I'm very happy with this item. Don't know why Amazon doesn't seem to stock it, though. I wonder if it sells out fast. As I write this the description says it ships in one to two months. I had to wait a good while for mine as well.

Nice phone system!

So far, it works very well. My husband loves the talking callerID, and always waits for the phone to ring twice so he can hear it. The reception is crystal clear, even on the speaker phones. The batteries seem to last for days, even after the phone is used and left off the charger. They are NiMH, so you can recharge at will, no memory problems. The answering machine is easy to use. The buttons so far seem to be solid. I've not used the intercom feature yet, so no comment there. There are a few features that my old cordless had that I wish these had: battery backup of the base units; the answering machine indicates there are messages, but not how many; you can't assign a name to each phone (den, dining room, etc.); and you can only assign one volume on the ringer. My old phones had a option that would shut off the ringer after whatever nighttime hour you chose until morning. This allowed sleep at night. I have to totally shut off the phone in the bedroom so we're not disturbed at night.

Records hang-ups

This phone had to go back. It had a couple of annoying features that I just didn't feel like I could live with. The first was that it records every single missed call, regardless of whether or not the person left a message. That means if you got 18 calls and three people left messages, you will have to listen to 15 recordings of dead air. Huge waste of time. The other thing I didn't like about this phone is that there is no digital display to tell you how many messages you have, just a little red arrow that flashes when there is one or more message. I can live with that, but not with all the recordings of dead air.

Outstanding--Panasonic KX-TG6583T - DECT/Bluetooth Bundle!

This unit has every-single-feature-you-could-use, and more. It is exactly the same as the other KX-TG6583T with three handsets total, except this supplier has added-in 2 extra handsets! This was perfect for me as I bought two sets (which was cheaper at that time than buying 2 or 3 extra ones) to have the extra handsets I wanted. This price is a great deal!

You don't need the phone company to block numbers, this machine does it for you, along with pairing up TWO cell's that have Bluetooth and your cordless Bluetooth earphone! Just pair your cell and you can transfer the directory from it to this unit's directory...a great feature, along with being able to answer your cell from any handset in the house. Panasonic doesn't bundle this unit in larger than three handsets, so at this price for 5, it is a steal!

I have used this unit three months now without one complaint. Why not get all technologies rolled into one, and have the convenience of the extra cell line to use when someone else has your main line tied up? The distance is great, I have used this system in city and country, and you can even get an extender from Panasonic, but this phone with DECT Plus covers the two acres I live on just fine.

Here are the advantages of this unit, some of them already noted by others,IMO:

1. The handsets have a jack for wired headsets.
2. There is a keypad and speakerphone in the base, so it functions as a fourth phone.
3. The interface with your providers voicemail (the voicemail service I use is from Vonage) is more comprehensive and easier to use than what you get from Vtech, Uniden or AT&T. For example, a light flashes when I have a message and the alert disappears automatically when I've heard all the messages. The VTech required you to go through a process to erase the alert after you've heard your messages.
4. The Bluetooth connection is like a microwave. Once you use it, you won't ever want to go without. You can even pair this unit with your wireless Bluetooth headset!
5. Call block. Get a call from a number you don't want to hear from again? Panasonic handles that! You merely save that number to your blocked list, and forever after anyone calling from that number gets a "busy" signal. No need to pay extra for that service from your provider.
6. It will transfer your cell's phone book to this unit easily!
7. The range is outstanding. I live on 2+ acres, and have never encountered a dead spot or fading.
8. Plug the units base into your UPS that you have for your computer, and it will never be without service in a power outage.
9. You can push a button when on a call, and lock-out other extensions from listening in on your call.
10. The talking caller ID is great when you are busy in the kitchen or working on a project.
11. The answering machine, for those of you who still use them instead of voice mail, has the longest recording time out there, 18 minutes.

I saw that Consumer Reports recommended the AT&T, and I previously had one of theirs and was happy with it. However their reviews were done nearly a year before this unit came to market in March, 2010, and given the Bluetooth edge, this is the best cordless phone for your money. It is smaller in size than cordless phones of the past, very similar in size and weight to a cell.

Good range and clarity - difficult to use full functionality

I like everything about this product except for the ease of use of using its more advanced functions. For example, in order to use a Bluetooth headset along with the functionality of redirecting incoming cell phone calls to these units you have to follow the following procedure. You first have to disconnect any previous connection between the Bluetooth headset and the base unit, pick up the call with the handset, then transfer the call to the speakerphone in the base, and then press the button on the base to transfer the call to the Bluetooth headset. it is possible that there is an easier way, but I have not been able to figure one out despite spending several hours with the full instruction book. The Bluetooth headset can only be paired with the base unit and not with any of the handsets. Everything else about the product is excellent, so if you don't need to use a Bluetooth headset it would be a great product for you.

Great phone with great range

Well I could write a ton but this is a good phone. The phones Blue tooth feature is nice. Only problem with Bluetooth is that its connected to the base station not the handset. Also they have a repeater to extend the headsets range.

OK fax copier, phone. acceptable for the SOHO

if you need to send faxes it is ok, the memory seems to get overloaded if you send more than 5-6 pages. the print quality on the recieve side i have found to be on the poor side and the auto fax answer switch mode does not work with my VOIP service. the copying is ok.

the phone is good, but, again, does not interact well with VOIP service and cannot indicate when i have voicemail waiting due to the internal answering machine.

it comes with a rather limited print ribbon/film, so i would suggest getting an extra one if you decide on buying one of these units, and use it to recieve faxes.

just about acceptable for small home office use.

2-line Panasonic Fax

This machine is a nice size and shape. I am fairly technically apt, but I found the manual to be extremely complex. Since I am mainly using this machine to send faxes, I have not even bothered to figure out all the complex phone features yet, but have confidence that I will be able to when I need them. The thing that surprises me is the fax capacity. I thought this machine would handle at least 3-4 clean, wrinkle-free pages at a time, but it does not. I have to sit and feed the pages in one at a time or it takes 2 or 3 together or jams. I honestly thought it would do a better job. I guess it just isn't your big business fax at the office. I am satisfied, but certainly not thrilled.

Panasonic KX-FG6550 Phone/Fax machine

This is the second Panasonic phone /fax machine I've owned. I was satified with its performance and durability. The replacement unit is smaller (that's a good thing) and it looks good too. The remote hand receiver is easy to use and the sound is clear. The instruction manual on the other hand is complex and you have to carefully read it to set up the phone. Over all I'm happy with the product.

Love this phone

Great unit. One of the few 4 line cordless phones. Easy to transfer calls between handsets. Sound is great in terms of volume and clarity. A great feature is the speakerphone on each handset which allows you to set it down while waiting on hold. Has music on hold which is a nice feature. Don't have any complaints about this phone.

Recently purchased this phone system and it is exactly what we were looking for.
It was extremely difficult to find a system that would use only cordless extensions but with this one we got that and the other features we were looking for. Of course the Amazon delivery was perfect as usual.

better than competition but still with problems

*multiple complaints that our volume is too low when people call us (can not hear us even when our phone setting is at highest)
holding phone at side of head does not work, need to hold it parallel to the ground and speak into the hilt
slightly distorted sounds, voice becomes unintelligible like the adult voices in Peanuts (the cartoon with Snoopy)

*other lines ringing/dialing will cut out segments of conversations on lines in use (other brands do this as well)

*lowest setting for ring volume is quite high (basically reduced to ring or no ring)

*static(international calls/cell phones in bad reception area)

*only right side buttons lights up

*100min voicemail limit is too small

*does not have smart voicemail that will weed out blank messages

*NiMH battery instead of Li-ion

*does not prevent dropped calls due to poor time Warner service :p

*only 1 year warranty

pros
*not much of a delay when picking up (first few words of other phones were being cut off)

*hold button works consistently

*speakers are adequate(can hear other people calling us just fine, no need to put on speakerphone just to hear the other party)often can hear the people next to caller as well :)

*privacy (no need to talk in a closet to keep people next to you from overhearing what the other party is saying) with some other phones it would seem like the speaker directed sound out of the back of the phone as well

*individual mail boxes

*can transfer calls to individual handsets

*range from base is descent

*accidentally hitting a line in use will not automatically put it on conference (need to hit button multiple times)

*dialing out will not accidentally pick up incoming calls (some phones if the number you are dialing contains 1 or 2 it will pick up incoming calls from line one or two when you get to that digit)

*no problems picking up call on other line once conversation on this line ends (no delay)

*silent mode(do not disturb mode), instead of ringing the LED on top of the antenna flashes

*on hold music

The phone has many useful features and works well, except for one thing: It does not always clear the voicemail indicator. It seems to work only intermittently. Other than that nuisance, it's a good phone.

great cordless phone great range

I bought this phone because I needed a phone that would give me better range than my panasonic 5.8gHz model without the interference with my computer equipment. I live in a pretty good sized house, ( 3 stories, 6000 sq. ft., lots of steel too). My 5.8 gHz model didn't quite cut it for range from one side of the house to the other. I really started seeing problems when they installed my wireless network for the house. I did some research and found out that the interference issue was common with 5.8 gHz and the wireless router because they operate on the same bandwidth and therefore can have some interference issues. As for the range, I was out of luck until I found this phone that has an included " range extender ". Set-up for the phone was very easy, ( 6 steps including " insert batteries and charge for 7 hours"). I put the range extender at about the distance where my 5.8 gHz started to fuzz out. This is easily installed as well. All you need is a power outlet, no phone jack. After the charging period, I tried the phone everywhere in the house with no issues. I can even go down to the lake to watch the kids with no issues. Also, from reading the directions, I noted that you can add one more range extender to increase your range even more. I think panasonic really got the idea right when they made this phone and included the range extender. I would have to say that my only disappointment is the handset display size and that it is not in color. If you are looking for a solid phone system with great range and no computer interference issues, you can't go wrong with this phone. Buy it! You won't be sorry.

We've had the system about a month now and are very pleased with it. Versatility of being able to place the phones anywhere is fantastic. The wife loves the intercom and the audio caller ID doesn't even require you to get up and see who's calling. Great System, highly recommend.

Great Cordless. Just what I wanted.

I've had this phone for over a year now, and I have yet to have any issues with it. Buying refurbished is enough to make anyone a little nervous, but everything, from battery life, to volume, to interference has been just perfect. Give it a try.

I use to have a problem with the microwave interferring with the phone (2.4mhz) but this phone doesn't even crackle when it is on. It's also easy to setup.

Good deal

It works well out of the box. It's supposedly able to fly to the moon and back, but the trick is that you have to have a degree from MIT to tell it to do that, so for most of us thats not a feature you will be able to use.. Out of the box it is handling 2 lines and 3 phones at this time for me, it works well. I'm thankful I don't really need any of the other features, because I don't think I could conjuer them, you know, with my "limited" education..:D

very good product but no tech support

it works very good as expected but if you ever need some basic tech help or simple questions, there is nobody to contact. I got this product on time and was able to set it up for basic functions but when contacted seller thru amazon.com, I got phone number to call.when I called that number got hang up twice and finally they told me to contact at some number for local panasonic dealer and they charge 90$ an hours, minimum 1 hour.

I previosly owned this phone, but over the years, one handset was lost and the other lost its LCD reading.
I found the reception on this phone to be terrific. It didn't have any interference from microwave or wireless, so I thought to get an exact replacement.
No need for latest and greates technology... this is a solid performer
I am quite hapy with this. The shipping happened in one day!

Works as advertized

Panasonic products work well. This 2-line phone is no exception. We also bought two extra handsets, for a total of four. These phones are placed throughout our two-story house, and their range is excellent.

It was easy to set up, and easy to interface with our Comcast digital phone and voicemail. Sound quality is excellent.
We have also used the handsets as intercoms.
Strong benefit: You can change the ring tone, so it sounds different from the phones on other lines, but also you can set special tones for designated callers.

Desired feature: There's no apparent way to use a headset with these phones

My complaint is not with the phone, but with Amazon. It was so difficult to figure out which additional handsets to buy, because the product descriptions didn't specify which units went with 2-line phones.
